Poc flair in Kilmes­san

THE Na­tional Club Poc Fada Cham­pi­onship re­turns to in Kilmes­san, Co Meath, on Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 28. The com­pe­ti­tion con­sists of two-per­son teams (com­prised of cur­rent or past play­ers) rep­re­sent­ing their clubs, ne­go­ti­at­ing the 5.1 kilo­me­tre Poc Fada course from the Hill of Tara to Kilmes­san’s hurl­ing pitch, across ter­rain steeped in his­tory and folk­lore. In last year’s in­au­gu­ral com­pe­ti­tion, Kil­cor­mac/ Kil­loughey (Of­faly) were the over all win­ners with 48 pocs, Conor Slevin and Cil­lian Kiely mak­ing up the win­ning pair­ing for the Of­fa­ly­men. Sec­ond place went to Gal­way se­nior cham­pi­ons St Thomas’ with 49 pocs while New­mar­ket on Fer­gus (Clare) took third place. The over­all long poc was won by Kilkenny man Alan Mur­phy from Glen­more.
