Two different flavours... how will they combine?
THEY’LL stand side-by-side in the big Bake Off tent when the show returns on Tuesday – but the two hosts could hardly be more different.
Noel Fielding is the flaky millefeuille of the pair – light, airy and a little bit naughty. Meanwhile, matronly Sandi Toksvig is more of a comforting cream bun.
C 4 hope that Noel, 44, will appeal to the younger fan. He grew up in Mitcham, South West London, and once said his parents, who were only 18 when he was born, spent much of their time at parties. It is a trait he has inherited.
Ms Toksvig is the darling of the traditional set. Aged 59, she was born in Copenhagen and spent much of her childhood in New York where her father Claus was a foreign correspondent for Danish TV. Their route to the top is quite a contrast, too. Fielding studied at Croydon School of Art and went on to graduate in graphic design from Buckinghamshire New University in High Wycombe before a long apprenticeship on the stand-up comedy circuit. His breakthrough came when he wrote and starred in The Mighty Boosh.
Sandi began her comedy career in more exalted company. She gained first-class honours in law, archaeology and anthropology at Girton College, Cambridge, while taking part in the Footlights revue alongside Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson. Solidly middle-class, Sandi lives on a houseboat in Wandsworth, South London. For all his rebellious credentials, Noel has a £1.5million (€1.5) apartment in Highgate.
