POTENTIAL OPPONENTS ON KATIE TAYLOR’S HORIZON
Jessica McCaskill
The most immediate target. The 33-year-old from Chicago already called Taylor out during the summer and she is likely to be rewarded with a title shot in London this December. She is the top-ranked American lightweight, after just six pro bouts with five victories and one defeat.
Holly Holm
Clearly a match that Eddie Hearn wants to make. Holm hasn’t stepped into a boxing ring in four years, and fights at welterweight, but given she has become a UFC superstar, by stopping the rise of Ronda Rousey, a possible bout with Taylor is hugely marketable.
Delfine Persoon
Belgium’s WBC lightweight champion is mentioned for a possible title unification bout in the 3 Arena next April. Persoon is coming back from a 10month absence to defend her belt against France’s Myriam Dellal next Saturday. She has 38 wins, 16 by KO, and one defeat in pro ranks.
Natasha Jonas
Jonas has won all three bouts in the pro ranks, but is scheduled to be on the under-card of David Haye-Tony Bellew in December and the Liverpudlian has history with Taylor – the pair arguably involved in the most thrilling women’s fight at the 2012 Olympics, meeting in the quarter-finals.
Heather Hardy
Hardy boxes at 122lb, but has been one of the driving forces in bringing women’s boxing into the mainstream in the US, and a possible fight with Taylor would certainly generate a lot of publicity. Hardy, who made her MMA debut earlier this year, is 21-0 in the ring.
