Varadkar’s cringey Twitter message... just sayin’

-

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar took a break from packing for a trip to the Us to defend his Government’s recent performance on his favoured medium, Twitter.

a 10-day st Patrick’s week whistle-stop tour, during which he’ll visit austin and Dallas in Texas, oklahoma, Washington Dc and New York city, began yesterday. The highlight of Mr Varadkar’s trip to the Us will be his first meeting with Us president Donald Trump, also an active Twitter user, at the White house. For his part, the Taoiseach yesterday tweeted: ‘While packing for Us trip, i got thinking about all the talk about spin v substance.

‘so here’s what Govt & i did this week: (1) committed extra funds for storm emma road repairs after agencies helped get country back working (2) Legislation for Repeal of 8th now in Dail. (3) Dail approval to ratify UN convention on Rights of People with Disabilities (4) high level talks with [EU] Pres[ident] Tusk, PM Bettel, cssr oettinger & OECD (5) Technological Universities act finally passed (6) opened Policy Debate on internet safety.’ he signed off with the painfully hip phrase ‘Just sayin’’. Meanwhile, on RTÉ Radio one’s saturday with cormac Ó headhra show yesterday, ex-Fine Gael leader alan Dukes said: ‘Politicians should stay off Twitter because they make fools of themselves on it, up to and including President Trump.’
