Brendan ‘just an Agnes stand-in’

IT’S the multi-award-winning show, whose ever-increasing global fanbase has made it a huge success. But Brendan O’Carroll has revealed he never intended to play his iconic comic character, Agnes Brown. The Mrs Brown’s Boys creator admitted he only stepped in after the actress he initially approached fell ill. The Dubliner, who was last night due to perform the last show of his tour of Australia and New Zealand, said: ‘I had an actress booked, but she got a kidney infection.’ The 62-year-old added TV bosses were so impressed they insisted he stayed put.
