REF’S LATE PENALTY BLUNDER COST US CRUCIAL POINT, CLAIMS KLOPP

- JOE BERNSTEIN

LIVERPOOL manager Jurgen Klopp claimed his side were denied a late match-saving penalty at Old Trafford but accepted that defensive errors also cost his side.

Klopp said the key moment came when Sadio Mane raced on to a Roberto Firmino backheel and fell as he tangled with a challenging Marouane Fellaini.

‘We should have had a penalty,’ he said. ‘If the referee [Craig Pawson] had seen it, it’s a draw. We would have more points and it would change my life massively.

‘But we knew Romelu Lukaku can win headers and when he did, we were not there for a second ball. So they scored twice like that.’

Liverpool, who had only two shots on goal, are now five points behind United. Klopp said: ‘How can I be frustrated if we don’t create a lot of chances against a world-class team like United. Are we under pressure? Yes, but that’s part of our life.’
