EOGHAN McDermott has lined up a dream summer job as he is set to be the voice of the hit reality show Love Island, the Irish Mail on Sunday can exclusively reveal.

But his heart will be at home as he has said for the first time that marriage is on the cards with his doctor girlfriend Aoife Melia.

The couple originally dated when they were in college, but went their separate ways until a year and a half ago.

‘At the time we split up I thought this is the worst thing in the world. She gives me a great dollop of perspective.

‘I’m pretty open. We’re not in it for the craic. We don’t have a timeline but, down the line, yes, of course.’ The 2FM presenter impressed ITV producers when he flew to Britain in February to discuss hosting Love Island.

But Eoghan’s hopes to land the gig of dreams are currently hanging on the decisions of 2FM bosses, who will have to give the hugely popular presenter two months’ leave to fly out to Majorca to host the show. Speaking to the MoS, Eoghan revealed that he had been offered the job alongside British presenter Caroline Flack. The busy presenter has also just worked on a charity album that was released this week and he managed to convince Wheatus to record his famous tune Teenage Dirtbag for the album. Eoghan has been with 2FM for the past three years and his popularity and talents are evident in the continuously growing JNLR ratings but he admits that there is pressure to perform.

‘Everyone will pat themselves on the back when they’re up and then they’ll say, “It’s not my fault”, when they’re down. But at the same time we have worked really hard.

‘I love radio and I think 2FM is a really nice place to work. But every three months it’s like a continuous assessment for life.’

He has also just finished a documentary on TG4 about random acts of violence, that came about after he was the victim of a random attack just after Christmas two years ago.

‘At the time it did have an effect on me psychologically,’ he says.
