Wenger must be fuming that decision was made for him

-

THE remaining weeks of Arsene Wenger’s reign at Arsenal should be a celebration of his time in the Premier League.

And what better way for the French coach to sign off than winning the Europa League and returning Arsenal to next season’s Champions League?

It is a shame that the last few years have soured his time at Highbury and the Emirates and that loyal fans have been calling for his head for so long.

I have been saying for more than a year that he needed to quit. Finally he’s announced he will leave at the end of this season. It is a sensible decision but I can imagine that he’s fuming that it has been made for him by the Arsenal board.

He was a revolutionary and while I didn’t always enjoy playing against his best Arsenal sides, you could not help but admire them, and him. They have been given the toughest draw in the Europa League semi-finals but if they can overcome Diego Costa and Atletico Madrid, it would be great to see him bow out with a trophy — and a Champions League place.

Meanwhile Everton are doing everything they can to push Sam Allardyce out. Their survey among fans on the manager is modern sport gone mad.

It is an attempt by the board to engage with the fans, keep them onside and create the impression that they have left no stone unturned.

It undermines Allardyce, can only lead to negativity towards the team and it looks like the new owners have not got a clue about running a football club.
