ANA Kreigel’s killer may have gone into a fit of rage before killing her, the Irish Mail on Sunday has learned.

One line of enquiry detectives investigating her murder are following is that she was killed by one or possibly two 13-year-old boys that she knew.

A source told the MoS Ana may have been killed after she told the boy that she ‘liked’ a slightly older boy, and not him.

The source said Ana was sexually assaulted and beaten with, most likely, a brick across the head. She was left lying naked in an old disused farmhouse in St Catherine’s Park, Lucan from the time she disappeared on Monday evening till her remains were discovered by a Garda search team on Thursday afternoon.

Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry, but it is understood arrests are not immediately imminent in the case.

A postmortem examination of the body was carried out by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy on Friday. That confirmed Ana died from blunt-force trauma to the head. It showed she had been brutally attacked with a weapon, most likely a brick, in the disused farmhouse at Clonee Road in St Catherine’s Park. The teenage girl was then left for dead and her naked body was discovered on Thursday at around 1pm.

Detectives believe she was murdered shortly after she went missing on Monday. Even the most experienced investigators have been left shocked by her killing.

Ana’s worried parents contacted gardaí at 8.30pm on Monday when she failed to return to her Leixlip home. It was so out of character for Ana to not reply to her parents’ calls and texts that they reacted very quickly to her disappearing.

The teenager, who loved to dance and liked fashion and make-up, was last seen in St Catherine’s Park, Lucan, three hours earlier.

Her disappearance sparked a huge search operation by gardaí.

Gardaí have been contacting the families of some of her friends since her body was found. They now intend to take statements from them to help build a picture of her final hours.

Ana, who was originally from Russia, was adopted at the age of two by her Irish mother and French father. She has a younger brother.

Superintendent John Gordon from Lucan Garda Station said the murder victim’s family were left ‘extremely distressed’ and appealed for their privacy to be respected.

Gardaí believe Ana willingly walked through the field before being beaten to death in the abandoned farmhouse, which is a popular hang-out spot for local teens.

Local Social Democrat TD Catherine Murphy is a friend of the Kriegel family and spoke about Ana’s death. She described her as an active child who enjoyed swimming and dancing.

Ms Murphy said the family was very anxious that anyone who may have any information should come forward and contact gardaí.

Ana – Christened Anastasia – was a popular first-year student at Confey College. In an online statement, the school expressed its sympathy to Anastasia’s family and friends.

In a letter to parents, Principal Mike O’Byrne said supports were in place to help students affected by the tragedy, and psychologists from the National Educational Psychological Service will also be in the school to provide assistance.

The local dance school that Ana attended, Dance LA, has also posted on its Facebook page expressing shock at the news of her death.
