THE Capuchin Day Centre

is delighted to pay host to Pope Francis during his trip in August. We trust the visit goes better than in 1979 when Pope John Paul II was due to stop at the church on Sean McDermott Street to meet the Peter McVerry Trust. However, the Pope was running late for his meeting with bishops and gave the homeless a miss. Fr McVerry, pictured, took years to recover from the slight to the homeless. Let’s hope the current Pope keeps to his promise.
