Gardaí launch murder investigation after man is found dead in Dublin park

- By Anne Sheridan

GARDAÍ have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of a man in west Dublin.

Adam Muldoon, 23, was found shortly after 6.30am yesterday at Butler Park off the Cheeverstown Road in Tallaght.

Mr Muldoon was believed to have been sleeping rough and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to the morgue at Whitehall where a post-mortem was carried out by the assistant State Pathologist.

Details of the post-mortem have not being released for operational reasons.

The scene of the incident remained sealed off last night while a full forensic examination was carried out.

Speaking yesterday at Tallaght Garda station Superintendent Ian Lackey said: ‘We are appealing to anyone who was in Jobstown Park, also known locally as Butler Park, between 11pm [on Friday night] and 6.30am [yesterday] morning to contact us at the incident room in Tallaght Garda station.

‘We are also appealing to motorists who travelled along Cheeverstown Road between those times and may have dash cam footage to come forward.’

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tallaght Garda station on 01-666 6000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

Meanwhile, gardaí are investigating the death of a cyclist found in a ditch in Co Clare yesterday.

It’s understood the man in his 50s was part of a group of cyclists travelling along the R458, the old N18 Ennis to Galway road.

The man’s friends had returned to find him when they noticed he wasn’t with the main group. They discovered him lying in a ditch about two kilometres north of Crusheen.

A spokesman confirmed the death was not suspicious. It’s believed the man may have suffered a medical episode.
