A MOTHER has been shocked after a letter was sent to her son about a forthcoming appointment in Beaumont Hospital – 12 years after he died.

Liz Brown, 61, from Coolock in Dublin, said she was ‘roaring crying’ after reading the document sent to her son James who died on April 1, 2006.

The letter stated he was due to see a specialist in General Nephrology and Transplantation Nephrology in Beaumont’s Hospital Kidney Centre at 12.30pm on Wednesday.

James, a 28-year-old father-ofone died in his sleep at his family home. His death was categorised as misadventure.

Liz told the Irish Mail on Sunday: ‘We’ve been left very confused and upset by this. James never attended Beaumont and had never suffered with his kidneys.

‘He lived at home so we would know if he had any issues. He had a disc removed in his back a few years before his death but that was in the Mater Private.’

Liz spoke to the secretary of the specialist due to oversee her son’s appointment who was shocked when told he had died in 2006 and never had a kidney problem.

In a strange twist of fate, Liz’s eight-year-old granddaughter is one of over 17,000 children waiting for a hospital appointment.

Liz added: ‘For my peace of mind I’d like to get answers and know that this is not going to happen to anyone else.

‘People are waiting and waiting a long time. I have to do something to highlight it and it just goes to show what a mess things are for something like this to happen.’
