Laura goes back to her roots to find out who she really is

- By Eoin Murphy ‘Fingers crossed my family aren’t crazy’

TV PRESENTER Laura Whitmore will kick off a new series of Who Do You Think You Are? for RTÉ which will be the jewel in its autumn schedule launch this week.

The Irish Mail on Sunday can reveal that the hit genealogy series, made by Kite Entertainment, is returning to our screens with six episodes in September.

Ms Whitmore will be one of the well-known faces exploring their roots on the show. Other guests will include Fermanagh-born actor Adrian Dunbar and Dublin singer-songwriter Damien Dempsey.

Ahead of starting work on her episode, Bray, Co. Wicklow girl Laura said: ‘Fingers crossed my family aren’t crazy and we don’t find out some mad stuff from the past.’

On Thursday, producers will reveal three more celebrities who will feature in the series.

Meanwhile, a series insider has revealed that it is Damien Dempsey’s episode that will prove one of the programmes of the year.

‘All of the episodes present something different. Laura and Adrian are great names to get, but Damien’s episode is just jaw dropping. People will really get to see a different side to the singer. As much as I hate using this word, he does go on a real journey. I think fans of his will love it but equally those that either don’t know him or like his music will be blown away.’

The first two series have been known to unearth some interesting revelations about Irish celebs. In a previous series, reporter Charlie Bird discovered his great-greatgrandfather was in the 1798 Battle of the Nile with Admiral Nelson. Bird also discovered his grandfather was a bigamist.
