Tears, steers and European cheers: The best and worst of Day Two in Paris

-

SHOT OF THE DAY:

Justin Rose produced a bit of Seve-style magic with a stunning chip to the first green in the foursomes. Confronted by an impossible stance with the ball on the water’s edge, he somehow finished up steering it to about 10 feet from the pin.

PUTT OF THE DAY:

Had to be Sergio Garcia on 17 in the fourballs. He and McIlroy had seen their four-hole lead over Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau cut to one with two to play, but just when it seemed the European pair were buckling, Sergio sank a beauty to take the match and send the crowd wild.

MOMENT OF THE DAY:

Paul Casey’s tearful celebration after winning his match alongside Tyrrell Hatton yesterday morning. Casey has been superb at this Ryder Cup, sinking more birdies (11) than any other player in the fourballs. Unlucky to lose on Friday, victory over Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler clearly meant so much to him.

SHANK OF THE DAY:

Alex Noren’s fluffed chip on the second in the foursomes. The Americans were in desperate trouble but Noren and Garcia contrived to halve the hole in six.

BIGGEST CALL OF THE DAY:

Jim Furyk’s decision to omit Phil Mickelson from his plans for both sessions. Not entirely surprising given how poorly Mickelson played on Friday but still a brave decision.
