‘The respect between me and Roy is big now,’ reveals Arter

- By David Sneyd

HARRY ARTER has broken his silence on the fall-out with Roy Keane which saw the Republic of Ireland midfielder put his international career on hold recently.

Speaking after yesterday’s defeat at Wembley, the onloan Cardiff City man insisted that there was a new-found mutual respect between the pair after the Ireland assistant manager contacted him to patch things up.

A leaked WhatsApp audio message from Stephen Ward revealed the extent of the foul-mouth rant aimed at Arter from Keane regarding his fitness during the summer, but the player is adamant those troubles are in the past after he made himself available for the forthcoming UEFA Nations League double header with Denmark and Wales.

‘It was a frustrating time, last break and as I say, thankfully now everything is sorted and I’ll go there with a lot of confidence albeit we haven’t started the season too well,’ Arter told Off the Ball.

‘I feel physically in good shape, a lot better than the times I went over last season and hopefully I can try and put in performances for Ireland.

‘Me and Roy just had a chat and the chat was private between me and him. I’ve got the utmost respect for Roy Keane and I was glad we sorted it out.

‘I’ve got the utmost respect for Roy as my coach and the respect between me and him is big now.

‘I’m just looking forward to going back over and hopefully put all the negativity to one side,’ Arter continued.

‘I decided to stay silent and as I say, it’s between me and Roy, we’ve patched it up now and everything’s back to how it should be.

‘For me, what has happened in the camp, stays in the camp... I’m not going to tell you guys. It happened between two grown guys and it’s sorted now.’
