Child f ilms bare-knuckle f ight and shouts: ‘Come on, my father!’

- By Craig Hughes

A VIDEO of two men bareknuckle boxing outside Garda HQ in Galway has gone viral.

The two-minute film, which has been viewed more than 300,000 times, begins with a woman in a car shouting as they pass the Garda station, ‘I’ll fight ya still, though’ as the car she is in stops beside the recently opened Western Region Garda Headquarters at 2.10pm on Friday.

The woman hands the camera to one of three children in the back seat and instructs one to keep filming as she and her partner get out of the vehicle. A man from a car that has pulled in behind them approaches and a brawl breaks out immediately. The men exchange blows as the children in the car scream: ‘Come on daddy, come on daddy, oh come on, daddy. Yes, come on my father, come on my father.’

Their father pins the other man to the ground in the middle of the road as traffic is brought to a standstill, and continues to strike the other man on the head.

One child shouts: ‘My father will never give in for nobody,’ while the two other youngsters can be heard crying.

The man’s partner then takes the camera from the child and approaches the two men shouting: ‘Give it to him Patrick, give it to him [as she appears to kick the man on the ground] calling your child names, calling your child names.’

She then approaches the car the man had been in and shouts at a female passenger to get out as she bangs on the window. ‘I’m going to leave you for dead, you won’t talk about my child like that,’ she can be heard saying.

A Garda spokesman said they were aware of the incident and want witnesses to contact them at Galway Garda station on (091) 388 030. No arrests were made at the time of going to press last night.
