Released on bail: January 2015
Offence: Caught with pipe bomb components and charged with membership of an illegal organisation
Crime while on bail: Murdered Garda Tony Golden and seriously injured his girlfriend Siobhán Philips after shooting her four times in October 2015. After the attack, Mackin turned the gun on himself and died by suicide.
GERARD MCGRATH
Released on bail: April 2007
Offence: Attacked a female taxi driver
Crime while on bail: Murdered Sylvia Roche Kelly in a Limerick Hotel in December 2007. McGrath met his victim – who had been celebrating her birthday – in a nightclub that night. He took her back to his room where he beat her and choked her to death.
GERALD BARRY
Released on bail: August 2007
Offence: Violent assault on his exgirlfriend
Crime while on bail: Raped and killed 17-year-old Swiss student Manuela Riedo in Galway in October 2008. Barry first came to the attention of gardaí in 1996 – aged 16 - when he was part of a gang that attacked a group of men on a stag party in the city, resulting in the death of Colm Phelan, 26, from Tipperary.
CELYN EADON
Released: February 16, 2011 – gardaí believed he had been granted bail when in fact the judge had issued a warrant for him to be sent to prison for 10 days and have a psychiatric evaluation. However, the warrant was lost and Eadon walked free.
Offence: Seven road-traffic offences
Crime while released: Stabbed his mother Noirin Kelly-Eadon, 46, to death in their home in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, three weeks after being in court.
MICHAEL TAYLOR JR
Released: 2006
Offence: Having cocaine for sale or supply
Crime while released: Shot and killed Paul Kelly in April 2007 as part of a feud. Was arrested while attempting to rob a Securicor cash van with two other men.
