The GAA should take a bow

-

READING of how much money the Liam Miller tribute match earned, and seeing the good places where that money will be put to work, left me feeling proud as a GAA man.

I’m proud that our association could be a part of an initiative that can produce something positive out of an awful tragedy.

The way the organisers of the tribute match have done their business has been hugely impressive, too.

The GAA took enormous criticism initially, but it is gratifying that they’ve played a part in this project.

What could have been a long drawnout, messy controversy was, instead, turned into something much more positive.

The Miller family will now benefit from people working together, and so will a host of other charities.

It shows the power of sport but also the power of co-operation and of good people pulling together for a cause.

Well done to all involved, and hopefully the proceeds can make life a little easier for people who have been through a lot.
