Windies waste no time with England

CRICKET: West Indies clinched a decisive home series victory against England when they beat the visitors by 10 wickets in the second test in Antigua. Kemar Roach (pictured) and captain Jason Holder took four wickets apiece as West Indies bowled out England for 132 in the second innings in North Sound. Fellow pace bowler Alzarri Joseph chipped in with two top-order wickets, including the prized scalp of captain Joe Root. Joseph’s performance came hours after his mother died following a long battle with a brain tumour. West Indies needed only 14 runs in their second innings to win, and they polished them off quickly to win with more than two days to spare. West Indies lead the three-test series 2-0.

GOLF: A two-stroke penalty that was imposed on Denny McCarthy at the Phoenix Open on Friday has been rescinded as golf’s ruling bodies acknowledge confusion caused by a new rule that came into effect on January 1. American McCarthy was penalised after his caddie Derek Smith stood behind him before he played a wedge shot to the 15th green in the second round at TPC Scottsdale. Rule 10.2b(4) prohibits a player from having his or her caddie deliberately stand behind him or her when the player begins taking a stance.
