Pow! Superhero film set to be most expensive ever
THE star-studded final instalment of the Avengers superhero franchise is set to be the most expensive film ever made.
Accounts suggest Disney had spent around $550m on the blockbuster four months before production wrapped. That puts it on course to eclipse 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the current recordholder for most expensive movie at $552m.
Avengers: Endgame has gone over-budget, Disney admitted. It premieres in April and features Gwyneth Paltrow, Michael Douglas, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Robert Downey Jr.
Accounts for the most recent financial year, ending in June 2018, show spending hit $556.5m. Most of this is understood to have gone on Endgame, which wrapped in October.
Disney said the total includes some costs for Infinity War – which took $2bn worldwide after its 2018 release – but most of these were covered in the previous financial year.
