STEPHEN DARBY retired from football last September after being diagnosed with MND aged just 29.

The former Liverpool defender had joined Bolton in 2017 but had not played for the club since December.

The right-back was capped at England U-19 level while at Liverpool, for whom he made seven appearance­s before loan spells at Swindon, Notts County and Rochdale.

Darby joined Bradford in 2012 where he played more than 200 times and reached the 2013 League Cup final.

He is married to Manchester City and England women’s captain Steph Houghton (left).
