A mischievous mix of (mostly) news

LIMERICK local election candidate Trina O’Dea was bitten by a dog last night. On Facebook, the Fianna Fáiler said: ‘Met a dog that was so not into politics – took a fine chunk out of my leg.’ She shared an image of the nasty injury, adding: ‘I’ll be fine, hazard of the job.’ AP REPORTER Jonathan Lemire revealed a wonderful Trumpian vignette this week. Speaking on the White House South Lawn, Trump told reporters: ‘If I am guilty of anything, it’s that I have been a great president.’ DURING a post Storm Hannah clean-up, Smokes hears a 2016 Shane Ross poster was discovered. One wag suggested the old antique be auctioned for charity… the poster, not the minister. TRIBUTES to Feargal Quinn came thick and fast this week. One from the Galway Advertiser’s editor Declan Varley came in the form of a 1988 copy of the paper, where journalist Mary O’Connor swapped roles with Quinn. She became managing director of Superquinn, and he did a shift in the newsroom. Varley gallantly took no credit as he wasn’t with the paper at the time. He also took no blame for the unconventional spelling of ‘swap’ in the headline: ‘We swop jobs with Feargal Quinn.’ SINN Féin MEP Matt Carthy, pictured, revealed this week on Twitter: ‘So, I was wondering why the battery on my laptop was running down every time I left it at home. Turns out the kids have been using my election leaflets to get through the facial recognition lock... I’m not sure whether to be proud by the wit or concerned by the sneakiness?’ We blame the parents.
