Wagatha Christie ought to know how to protect her privacy

-

In fairness, you’ll have to admit that Coleen Rooney has demonstrated a commendable fortitude over the years.

Hubbie Wayne Rooney was returned to the all-too-familiar dog house at the end of 2017 after Coleen heard how he’d just been charged with drink driving.

Now, that kind of behaviour is bad enough but, when arrested, Wayne was behind the wheel of a flashy VW Beetle belonging to an adult human of the female variety.

It wasn’t the first time our Wayne was caught off side – I mean, WAY offside!

At any rate Coleen weathered all those storms and got on with life surrounded by the comforting luxury she’s undoubtedly become accustomed to.

And now this week we have this spat with another footballer’s wife Rebekah Vardy – the other half of Jamie Vardy – who she accuses of leaking stories about her to the British tabloids from her private Instagram posts.

Whether or not Ms Vardy is guilty as charged is beside the point. The real question is what Coleen Rooney was doing on Instagram in the first place – or any other social media site for that matter – if she had any real consideration for her privacy.

Where has she been? Has nobody ever mentioned to her that social media and privacy are entirely non-intersecting, mutually exclusive concepts?

People who post private matters on social media platforms that we all know leak like colanders deserve what they get.

And when things go wrong they should suck it up, like Tony Soprano suggested to Jennifer Melfi during one of his sessions with the famous shrink.

He asked Melfi – ‘What ever happed to Gary Cooper, the strong and silent type?’

It was an extrordinary moment of critical self-reflection by Soprano. But the message was clear.

There are times when you take the hit, learn the lesson, shut the gob – and get on with it.

Rather than becoming the laughing stock of the countless millions who live their lives by proxy through celebrity non-entities, Coleen Rooney should have simply deleted all her social media accounts, including the one for a select number of ‘private’ friends.

And restored to herself the best gaurantee she has to privacy.
