Home security CCTV used to be the preserve of those with big houses and big budgets. However, over the last few years a variety of smart-home enabled cameras have become available, some at remarkably good prices.
One company offering a broad range of home security cameras is EZVIZ. Its full HD Wifi indoor smart home security camera is a plug-andplay Wifi camera for use around the home. The camera could be placed on a flat surface but can also be easily affixed to a wall.
The camera itself is small, at 64mm across. It has a magnetic base and there’s a three-meter cable which is useful. It records in full HD and has a 130° viewing angle. This means that even in a small room or area, the camera manages to capture a great wide view. Setting up the camera is straightforward and requires the EZVIZ app. This free app is available for iOS and Android. With the camera powered up, the app guides you through connecting the camera to your home Wifi network. Once connected, you can use the app to view the camera’s image in real-time. The picture quality of both day and night video is excellent and the image that you see is date and time-stamped.
The app screen has several useful features, available with a simple tap. Tapping the microphone activates the two-way talk. There are also camera and video icons and tapping these either takes a photo or records video.
The app also displays videos that have been recorded when the camera senses movement.
The camera can be fitted with a memory card or you can subscribe to the EZVIZ cloud storage system.
If you install a number of EZVIZ cameras you can view several cameras in a small grid, just like commercial security systems.
The app also allows you to set schedules for recording and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
It’s worth noting that the camera only works with 2.4Ghz Wifi routers. Many people have upgraded to 5Ghz dual routers, so check that your router supports 2.4Ghz.
