‘I WANTED TO PASS IT’!

- By Matt Barlow

JOSE MOURINHO hailed him as ‘Sonaldo’ but Son Heung-min confessed he was looking to make a pass when he set off on the run which ended in a wonderful solo goal.

‘I got the ball and tried to pass it to Dele (Alli) but I couldn’t find him so I just kept going,’ smiled Son after Tottenham’s triumph.

Harry Kane scored twice with Lucas Moura and Moussa Sissoko also on target but it was the man who scored the third who had everyone talking. ‘Sonny stole the show,’ said Kane. ‘An unbelievable goal, a great counter attack. All he wants to do is work hard and play for the team.’

Mourinho was reminded him of a goal scored by the Brazilian Ronaldo for Barcelona against Compostela in 1996. ‘Even before this goal my son called him Sonaldo,’ said the Tottenham boss.

‘And today he was Sonaldo Nazario. The only goal that came to my mind was when I had the honour to be sitting next to Bobby Robson when Ronaldo Nazario scored a goal very similar.

‘It was an important performance, an important result, with goals, happiness with the fans, happiness with the team, young boys coming on from the bench, a 17-year-old kid making his debut, a clean sheet, I’m really happy.’

Troy Parrott was the debutant and Mourinho took the matchball from Son and gave it to the young striker who could feature against Bayern Munich on Wednesday when Kane and other first-teamers will be rested.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche was less impressed. ‘Five goals from five giveaways, sloppiness, details,’ grumbled Dyche. ‘But you’ve got to credit the opposition. They started superfast.’
