No Fairytale ending for Twink after rant against Shane, RTÉ

- – Niamh Walsh

RTÉ have refused to be drawn on Twink’s diatribe against the station and singer Shane MacGowan after last week’s Late Late Show special.

But Yours Confidentially has learned that Twink’s presence will no longer be welcome in Montrose.

This comes after Twink slammed MacGowan as a ‘dishevelled, inarticulate drunk’.

She also criticised the decision to dedicate an entire episode of The Late Late Show to the Pogues singer.

But this time Twink’s uninvited comments could cost the former panto queen her RTÉ grace and favour.

When questioned about her lengthy Facebook post, an RTÉ spokesman said: ‘Obviously we will not be commenting on any of that.’

When pressed if Twink, who is a regular on RTÉ channels, would be gracing the screen or airwaves anymore, the station refused to be drawn saying, ‘we have absolutely no comment’. However, sources have confirmed that Twink’s ‘RTÉ days are numbered’ and that ‘presenters and staff alike were all disgusted at her comments’.

After the Shane MacGowan tribute special aired, Twink unleashed a stream of bile against the acclaimed songwriter, and attacked RTÉ as well as taking a pop at singer Philomena Begley’s rendition of the Christmas classic hit Fairytale Of New York.

‘I have always considered Shane MacGowan a disgrace to us... a dishevelled... inarticulate drunk who wrote ONE song we can remember... and one I’d rather not.. I have always LOATHED...THAT song!’

After Twink’s rant, host Ryan Tubridy defended both singers and the decision to film the special.

He said on RTÉ Radio 1: ‘I also remove my hat to Shane MacGowan and Victoria Mary Clarke who were so helpful in putting together The Late Late Show on Friday and to Philomena Begley who came in and gave it her all on the duet with Shane.

‘Shane idolises Philomena Begley.’
