Body found in Cork city had horror injuries
GARDAÍ were last night expected to launch a murder investigation after a man’s body was found in the grounds of a vacant house in Cork city.
The man is understood to have died violently and sustained serious injuries.
The building is known to have been the target of vandalism and anti-social behaviour in recent months.
The house, which has been vacant for some time, is known locally as ‘the Castle’ and is about 1km from Cork city centre at the South Link Road end of the Boreenmanna Road.
The man’s body was discovered at about 4pm on Saturday, and gardaí are treating the death as suspicious.
The body of the man, who had not been identified last night, remained at the scene, pending a full forensic and technical examination, gardaí said.
Officers were preparing to carry out door-to-door enquiries, and an incident room has been set up at Anglesea
Street Station. Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the area over the past number of days to come forward, indicating that the man’s body may have lain in the grounds of the house for no more than a few days.
The man’s injuries are understood to be so severe that gardaí are having difficulty in identifying him.
It is understood a pathologist will visit the scene early this morning, after which the body will be transferred to Cork University Hospital, where a full post-mortem examination will be carried out.
Gardaí are expected to check local CCTV feeds and they have also appealed for anyone with any information to contact them at any Garda station or on the Garda confidential line at 1800 666 111.
