Doherty hails his big-game hunters

BUOYED by completing the double of Manchester City, Wolves now fancy themselves to end

Liverpool’s astonishing unbeaten run today.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have not lost a Premier League game at Anfield since April 2017 or anywhere since January, a run of 35 matches, but Wolves have a formidable record against the ‘Big Six’ and defender Matt Doherty, who scored the winner against City on Friday night, says they go into the game with real confidence — particularly with winger Adama Traore in the form of his life.

‘Liverpool are a top-class team but so are Manchester City and we have just beaten them twice, so we will go there full of confidence,’ said Doherty.

‘Teams will need to keep two eyes on Adama. It’s a pleasure to play alongside him at the moment.

‘We are close to fourth now and, if we can go there and win, we’ll be in an unbelievable position in the New Year. We watched Liverpool’s game at Leicester. They’re pretty good! But they’ll be wary of us, for sure. We’ve only lost once now in a long time so it’s going to be a good game.’

Wolves’ belief has helped them recover 14 points this season from losing positions. They have played eight matches away to the ‘Big Six’ since returning to the Premier League and lost only twice. ‘Our fitness is really good,’ added Doherty, who was part of the Wolves team that won 2-1 at Anfield in an FA Cup fourth-round tie in January 2017.

‘We feel fresh, everything is clicking for us.

‘Last season we were good against the big teams. We believe we can create nights like the City win so it’s not a shock when it happens.’
