The eyes have it as bright colours make a comeback

- Laura Bermingham

Henry Street shop Arnotts is Ireland’s oldest department store. It first opened its doors in 1843 some 177 years ago, narrowly ahead of Brown Thomas who first set up shop six years later in 1849.

Fast forward to 2020 and the two stores are leading destinations for all things beauty. Arnotts now offers beauty services like the Grafton Street store, with Personal Beauty Specialist Robert O’Reilly in charge of makeup lessons and makeovers, all of which are redeemable against beauty in the store. Robert shared with us spring’s newest beauty direction, which he’s tipping to be the top trend.

‘This season I think really bright eyes are going to be big, lots of pops of colour as a focus feature, like neon eyes from an electric liner colour – the M.A.C Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner is perfect for this. A wet look lip is also really popular this season as everyone wants that full hydrated lip. Imperfections are also a focal point this season with people embracing natural skin.’

Dull skin is something we can all deal with Robert says, and his top buy for spring deals with this. He says, ‘My must-have skincare product is definitely Sunday Riley Good Genes Glycolic Serum which is suitable for all skin types. This is a beautiful, gentle exfoliating serum that can be used both day and night to leave the skin looking super fresh. It works perfectly under makeup as it preps the skin, making it super smooth and plump.’

When it comes to removing that new season look, Robert has chosen a new arrival to Ireland from leading facialist Sarah Chapman’s line. He says, ‘Last but not least, on my top skincare product list for SS20 I’ve chosen Sarah Chapman Ultimate Cleanse. This oil-based cleanser is perfect for removing any makeup whether it’s the eyes or skin. When applied and massaged with hands onto dry skin this cleanser melts into the pores removing any impurities. Pour a little into the hands and add water, that way it emulsifies into a milk-like texture and leaves the skin clean without stripping away any essential oils .’ Colour is definitely the biggest trend going from this season right through into autumn. From fashion weeks for both spring and autumn there has been no end to colourful liner and shadow, and for the first time in many years very little attention given to lip colour. For skin though, clear, radiant and natural is always on the agenda, especially at this time of year. Luckily there are plenty of options now to get that glow, glycolic acid being the shortest route, and there are plenty of options for all budgets.
