LEAN BACK INTO IT

A chaise is an elegant addition to your home for solo lounging in these times of social distancing

- Emily Westbrooks

The silver lining of the current crisis is that many of us have more time inside our homes, which is the perfect place to dream a little about interiors improvements we can make in the future. If your current work week involves sitting on a less-than-comfortable chair while you work at a makeshift desk, take a few minutes to consider an interiors element that often goes under the radar: the classic chaise.

While we might not be venturing into bricks and mortar interiors stores for the time being, window shopping of the online variety is an option we can all engage in — and many stores are still offering delivery options if you’re ready to add something new to your home for this season of staying in. And so, the chaise. If you have the room, it makes a very swanky statement in a living room or bedroom. A chaise is elegant, with swooping long lines, and oozes luxury, at least in part because it’s a solitary lounging spot. Of course, that’s perfect for our current social distancing, but even in normal times it’s appealing that you could rest on your own with a book or magazine, or even with your computer if you’re hoping to squeeze in a bit of work in a more comfortable way.

Layer it with a throw and a cushion for added comfort, or, if you’re looking to create a more modern, contemporary look, leave its lines to speak for themselves in the space. Leather is the perfect material for a chaise that will add architectural lines, while velvet adds cosiness that can’t be beaten.
