Will Sharon break news of engagement?
RTÉ news anchor Sharon Ní Bheoláin seems to be in sparkling form of late as she has been sporting a diamond on her ring finger.
The news stalwart’s Nine O’Clock News from Montrose is part of the RTÉ news roster and, as such, has been keeping the nation updated on the latest figures and emerging crisis details. And while there has been a dearth of good news stories of late, Sharon herself could be celebrating a possible engagement to her long-term partner vet Finbarr Heslin.
A Malahide native, Ms Ní Bheoláin has been dating prominent Kildare vet Finbarr since 2008 having begun dating three years after her marriage to cameraman Kevin Cantrell ended in 2005.
As the nation is glued to the news, eagle-eyed viewers have spotted Ms Ní Bheoláin’s diamond ring, prompting the ‘is she, isn’t she’ proposal conundrum.
When contacted this weekend, Ms Ní Bheoláin refused to be drawn on the subject, telling the Irish Mail on Sunday that she ‘won’t be commenting’.
Trinity graduate Ms Ní Bheoláin joined Montrose in 1994 where she has presented many flagship programmes including RTÉ News: One O’clock and RTÉ News: Six One as well as other news bulletins on both radio and television.
In 2018, she became the co-anchor of RTÉ News: Nine O’Clock sharing presenting duties with Eileen Dunne while she also presents Crimecall every month along with presenting Leaders’ Questions every Wednesday and Thursday morning during the Dáil term.
In 2018 she was embroiled in a bitter war with RTÉ’s head of current affairs, Jon Williams, which erupted into a blazing newsroom spat. After the row, she left the RTÉ studios – hours before she was due to present the Nine O’Clock News.
The row began after Six One presenter Caitríona Perry was chosen to co-anchor the Nine O’Clock News from Westminster on the night of a crucial confidence motion in the then-British prime minister Theresa May.
Ms Ní Bheoláin had been rostered to present from the Dublin studio during the broadcast.
