FIVE steps to a happier, healthier quarantine

-

NOW more than ever, we need to look after our health. A healthy body and mind will boost your immune system to keep you fighting fit during these unprecedented times.

STEP 1: CREATE A HEALTHY ROUTINE

YOU needn’t rise at 6am. In fact, with the stresses surrounding why we’re in lockdown in the first place, it’s important to get your rest and this may be a good time to assess the type of schedule that works best for you – whether you’re a lark or an owl – and when you’re most productive, but be sure to get to bed and rise at the same time every day, and don’t oversleep. Set yourself a deadline to go for that daily walk or run so that your day starts on a positive note, giving you the energy to tackle everything else your day has in store.

STEP 2: MAKE A REALISTIC MEAL PLAN AND STICK TO IT

A TRIP to the shops nowadays involves social distancing, long wait times and heaps of hand sanitiser, so a wellthought-out list is more important than ever. Sit down and discuss what you’ll need with everyone in your household. Avoid filling up your trolley with unhealthy treats and ensure you stock up on plenty of healthy snack options as well as meals. US! online offers weekly menus, recipes and cooking demos to inspire you before you head out with that shopping list.

STEP 3: FIND NEW WAYS TO MOVE

YOU don’t need expensive fitness equipment, just get creative. Get the kids to join you on a walk or let them cycle or scoot alongside you. Kick a football with them, skip with a rope or join them on the trampoline. Try a few HIIT or CrossFit exercises in the garden. Variety is key. Need more inspiration? STEP 4: CARVE OUT SOME ME-TIME

BE kind to yourself. Whether it’s time in the bath, upstairs on your bed with a face mask, or reading a book in a quiet corner, be sure you set aside an hour all to yourself. Close quarters can be stressful and you need to mind yourself.

STEP 5: FIND WAYS TO STAY MOTIVATED AND POSITIVE

WE need news more than ever before, but while it’s important to stay tuned in to what’s going on, do set boundaries and log off for a good portion of your day. Follow informative sites that make you feel energised as opposed to drained. Set up a FaceTime, Zoom, WhatsApp or Houseparty date with your best pals or family members so you feel close to those who bring you joy. Join an online yoga or exercise class to give you an extra energy boost. US! online and the Unislim app offer added daily support from your online weight loss coach as well as other members to help you stay on track. Join in the conversation and stay connected.
