Family proves the recipe for success at Tilbury brand

The Charlotte Tilbury beauty brand is a big seller in Ireland. The popular British makeup artist with an A-lister client list as long as her arm creates makeup that Irish women love. But flame-haired Charlotte isn’t the only Tilbury female at the beauty brand, her sister Leah is Charlotte Tilbury Director of Brand Creative. And Leah’s daughter, Sofia Schwarzkopf-Tilbury, is brand ambassador, makeup artist and Product and Content Creator at the brand.

Sofia explains how she became part of this female family brand saying, ‘When I moved to the UK from Ibiza for boarding school, I would visit Charlotte in London and she’d let me take some makeup from her office back to school with me. I was obsessed! When I was getting into the business, Charlotte’s biggest piece of advice was to come and work for her! She said the most important thing was assisting someone so you can watch and learn first-hand. You have to watch, learn and practise as much as possible!’

On Charlotte’s role as mentor, Sofia tells me ‘Working with Charlotte is incredible. It’s the best training you can get and she’s an amazing mentor. Charlotte’s not just skilled with makeup, she is also a powerfully confident woman and she has taught me so much about self-belief and positive visualisation. Charlotte always says, “Give everyone the right makeup and they can conquer the world!” She believes that makeup is a tool for helping a person unlock the most powerful, positive version of themselves, and I can really feel that magic every time I sit down to create a look for a client!’

Being hands-on as a makeup artist and part of the creative team behind new beauty is the ideal role Sofia says. She explains saying, ‘Working as a Brand Ambassador and artist complements my role as Product and Content Creator at Charlotte Tilbury really well. I get to help our New Product Development team formulate new products when Charlotte sets us a brief, by trialling the products on myself and on my celebrity clients.

‘We always know we have a bestseller on our hands when a celebrity is begging for a palette or a lipstick to take home with them! It’s also so fun to be involved in a campaign from start to finish—to watch something come to life from an idea Charlotte might have had while we were on holiday in Ibiza, to seeing it in all its glory in an amazing magazine shoot or TV advert!’
