Radio Week
The picks of the best of this week’s radio
ENTERTAINMENT
Sunday with Miriam SUNDAY, 10AM, RTé RADIO 1 ★★★★ Miriam O’Callaghan presents her weekly live mix of lifestyle, music, human interest and great interviews.
The Book Show SUNDAY, 7PM, RTé RADIO 1 ★★★★ Rick O’Shea returns with a new series of The Book Show and will be talking to the authors of the best new books, while asking what it’s like to have your novel published when bookshops are off-limits. The nation’s book clubs will also be posing questions to some of our top writers.
The Silence Inbetween SUNDAY, 6PM, LYRIC FM ★★★★★ Silence might at first seem straightforward in music – the notes stop playing, that’s all. But it’s not that simple. As the composer John Cage said, the more you listen to silence, the more interesting it becomes. Pianist and radio host Guy Livingston takes us on a journey from the pauses of medieval chant through silences in Monteverdi, Mahler, Pärt and beyond. He also meets Monica Germino, a virtuoso violinist confronting hearing loss, who co-invented the “whisperviolin”.
Moncrieff MONDAY-FRIDAY, 2PM, NEWSTALK ★★★★ From the bizarre to the intellectual, this award-winning show is one of the most eclectic on Irish radio. Covering politics, history, popular culture, sex, farming, parenting, religion, psychology, international news, science, philosophy and pretty much everything else, Moncrieff will make you think and laugh.
