PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE WHEN IT COMES TO A TV UPGRADE

-

It looks like the TV will remain our main source of entertainment for the rest of the summer.

So is it time to enhance your viewing experience with a snazzy new model?

The old 32” HD-ready TV has had its day. HD-ready isn’t even up to the standard of high definition (HD).

Those alluring big-screen Ultra HD, smart TVs have come down in price and might just be affordable, depending on your budget. And they can really make a massive difference to your viewing – and listening – pleasure.

But which one should you choose? LG – particularly its highly-rated OLED screens – has dominated Which? magazine’s Best Buy ratings for years.

Which? raves about the latest 65” and 55” TVs (both C9PLA models). Yet it advises that you should hold off on buying one. That’s because high-end new tellies like these cost about three grand when launched – but the price soon falls dramatically.

The price of the 55” model has already since fallen by a fifth. ‘Almost all TVs follow this trend,’ Which? says. ‘We recommend waiting eight months from launch to get the best price.’

If you go for one even a bit older than that you can get an even better deal without sacrificing quality. Curry’s has a 55” LG for sale in its Black Tag summer sale for €619, described by Which? as being a ‘rather brilliant telly.’ It’s the SM8200PLA model.

If those tellies are too big for your budget or your living room, Harvey Norman has 43” and 49” LG Ultra HD models for €359 and €419 respectively.
