Mellow yellow for summer sunshine
Herald those lazy, hazy days with these golden tones to bring in the brighter weather
Ilove the way certain specific shades of colour signify a shift in the seasons. During springtime, those spring yellows and greens are what start to pull us out of the long winter. But by mid-summer, golden yellows and sunset-inspired oranges are exactly the colours that I’m craving — and we’ll cruise along into early autumn with this palette.
For the most part, these shades work well in combination with other warm colours, but they can also mix right in with deep plum or even emerald jewel tones, if that’s what you already have in your home. Of course, golden yellow also mixes beautifully with monochromatic black and white, making it the perfect summer chameleon colour. If you’re hoping to capture the feel of a warm summer morning, layering a golden yellow duvet onto your bed is bound to help bring that seasonal vibe. Adding in a muted orange or rust throw on top will allow you to usher in the first hints of autumn, although we’ll continue to pretend those are a long way off!
When it comes to choosing what wood tones look best with golden yellow, you have a range to choose from. From pale birch to darker mahogany, golden yellow pairs well with any and all natural tones, although if you’re choosing lighter wood, make sure you have enough darker tones in the room to provide contrast in the room so the golden shade will pop.
Even a small dose of golden yellow can help us eke out the best of the summer, whether the weather cooperates through to September or not. A golden throw here, or a deep yellow cushion there, and you’ll have cheerful sunshine-inspired doses of summer to help you enjoy the season.
