The Nanny Betrayal (2018) PG

● 2.15PM, CH5 ★★

What is it with made-for-TV movies and nannies? In this perfectly watchable example, a couple hire what they think is the perfect au pair. But could Amber (Olesya Rulin) be responsible for a series of murders – or is someone else setting her up? 2012 (2009) 12

8PM, 5STAR ★★★

Booming action of the kind Roland Emmerich turns out in his sleep (think Independence Day, etc), with the emphasis on the visuals. Chiwetel Ejiofor is the scientist who sees disaster coming, while John Cusack (above) is the ordinary guy trying to save his family.

The Snowman (2017) 15

9.35PM, RTé ONE ★★

Michael Fassbender heads the cast of the disappointing thriller as the intriguingly named Detective Harry Hole. He’s on the trail of a serial killer who uses snowmen as a very unusual calling card.

Limitless (2011) 15

◆ 11.05PM, 5STAR ★★★★ This frenetic sci-fi thriller stars Bradley Cooper (right) as the layabout writer who gets a pharmacological boost from a pill that enhances mental capacity to amazing degrees. A spin-off TV show – largely without Cooper – was cancelled after just one series.

The Babadook (2014) 15

11.10PM, SYFY ★★★★

In this quality supernatural horror, Essie Davis stars as the frazzled widow whose young son is disturbed by visions of a shadowy monster from a picture book. Director Jennifer Kent followed this with the equally chilling The Nightingale in 2019.

Boyhood (2014) 15

1.25AM, CH4 ★★★★

Ellar Coltrane plays a boy growing up on screen, from ages six to 18, with Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke as his estranged parents. A subtle and fascinating coming-of-age drama, skilfully filmed over more than a decade by director Richard Linklater.
