Lip-filler salon that ignored lockdown rules closes doors

THE owner of a beauty salon who reopened last week in contravention of coronavirus regulations previously shared a distasteful message referencing the Holocaust.

Alicia Puk, who owns Dublin beauty clinic Alicia

Lip Filler, posted a picture on Instagram of the sign over the Auschwitz Nazi concentration camp that reads ‘Arbeit macht frei’ (German for ‘Work will set you free’) – with the Pfizer logo superimposed over it.

This week gardaí visited and shut down the salon that was open and offering lip filler and other beauty treatments at its premises in Blanchardstown. Ms Puk regularly shares anti-lockdown messages on her social media pages.

The salon’s open-door policy drew attention when an image was shared online of five patrons seated side by side in a small waiting room where a receptionist was also visible.

A Garda source said they had received ‘a huge number of complaints’ about the business.

They said: ‘Gardaí attended the salon and notified it that it was in breah of contraventions… and should not reopen until further notice.’

However, they are ‘continuing to monitor’ the premises to ensure compliance.

Twitter users slammed the image as the Government said this week that hospitals are at crisis point with ICU beds almost full to capacity with gravely ill coronavirus patients.

One Twitter user shared the image with the caption: ‘Love how nurses are absolutely slaving away in hospitals with the worst cases and deaths as of yet, with families not being able to even say goodbye to their families but Alicia Lip Fillers are still going ahead during a Level 5 lockdown!’

Another wrote: ‘How people can actually justify to themselves to be getting lip fillers right now I just can’t comprehend it. And then to be posting it online like, “hun, no one is going to see your lips for a while”. Wear a mask.’

According to the Level 5 lockdown restrictions, all services, including hairdressers, beauticians and barbers, must remain closed except for essential retail.

Alicia Puk was offered a chance to comment but declined.
