Beauty: Laura Bermingham

There are plenty of beauty tips and tricks on social media platform TikTok that are best avoided. Crazy things like making a fake tooth out of moulding plastic, lining your lips with self-tan to make them look fuller, and a lot more besides. But one particular make-up trick used to give a face-lifting effect to the eyes and face popped up and quickly went viral. More videos on the hack appeared and views have risen to 33.6 million and rising — and it actually works.

Magazine spoke with Bobbi Brown Pro Artist, Lampros Fasli, about the hack and how it works.

He explains that it is a modern approach to using concealer, and it’s one any age can try.

Lampros says: ‘Pinpoint lifting is the strategic placement of concealer to create a lifting illusion to the eyes, cheekbones and corners of the mouth. It’s a modern artistry approach from heavily concealing under the eye to a softer, more subtle and blended look.’

For the facelift make-up hack to work, he has a few key tips on where to place the concealer.

To start with, Lampros says: ‘First of all, decide the area/areas where you would like to create the illusion of lift and lightness. Use a lighter shade of Instant Full Cover Concealer (Bobbi Brown/€29) and apply a small amount on the area, usually in a straight line movement from the outer edges of your eyes.’

This ‘straight line’ lifts the eye area and instantly makes the whole under eye area look higher.

If you feel like you need more cover to hide dark circles, for example, he suggests adding some more concealer. ‘Blend with your finger and use a brush to add more product if needed. Blend and diffuse the product into your skin.’

And while that gives a lifted look to the eye area, the same principle can be applied to other areas of the face where ageing has caused sagging or deep facial lines. When wrinkles set in they create a crease in the skin. This crease leaves a permanent shadow on the area, so brightening the shadow with light makes the area looks lifted.

When you want lift elsewhere on the face Lampros says it’s pretty much the same facelift make-up technique. He says: ‘Repeat these steps on any other areas around the face to create a more sculpted, lifted look, including the outer corners of the mouth and the inner eye.’

Try it on the wrinkles between the brows, the nose to mouth creases, marionette lines around the chin that run vertically up to the cheeks, and anywhere else you see facial lines. It’s simple but effective, and it’s certainly a lot cheaper and less-invasive than a real facelift!
