Angela floors the judges on Strictly
TWINKLE-TOED TV presenter Angela Scanlon earned herself a standing ovation on last night’s Strictly Come Dancing live show.
The flame-haired Kildare beauty’s ‘beautiful leg action’ left both judges and the studio audience in awe, with her proud husband, entrepreneur Roy Horgan, among the wowed fans. Ms Scanlon and her pro dance partner, Carlos Gu, 39, took the dance floor with a jive number to Shampoo’s Trouble – with the bespoke routine leaving the Ask Me Anything presenter to do most of the work on her own. Afterwards dance judge Shirley Ballas praised her ‘beautiful’ leg action, while Motsi Mabuse tipped the pair to go far in the competition. Anton du Beke commented: ‘I’ve just written down, Legs; feet; Wow!’
The couple were awarded three 7s – from Craig Revel Horwood, Mabuse and Ballas – with Du Beke giving them an 8 for a total score of 29 out of 40.
After finishing their routine, when host Tess Daly asked her about being more on her own in this week’s choreography, a breathless Angela said: ‘It was a big week. Last week in the tango I was like a little koala bear. But this week he let me go.’ Fans praised the one-time Irish dancer on social media. One tweeted: ‘I love her and Carlos they are great together her jive was brilliant.’ Another said: ‘What a jive! Lovely pointy toes and everything – hints of an Irish dancer?’
There was a mini-panic just hours before last night’s live show when professional dancer Gu suffered a painful-looking facial injury. The dancer posted a photo of his bloody nose on Instagram, alongside a caption saying he’d had ‘a little situation’ before assuring fans he was ‘all good’.
Angela hinted on her own Instagram account the bloody nose might have been the result of an accidental headbutt. She posted: ‘Another week with this glorious mad egg. Tonight we JIVE. Sweet mother it is intense & relentless but I love it and can’t wait for you to see. I’ve never sweated so much in my life. Thank you @gkx_carlos for teaching me about the chicken hand demonstrating the kicks over & over again and graciously taking an accidental head butt (one a week). You are the best.’
