‘AUTHENTIC Irish’ accents are all the rage with international casting agents right now, according to Jurassic World star Elva Trill.

The Co. Sligo actress says she has being asked to read in her native tone ‘a lot more’ in recent auditions.

A proliferation of Irish accents is noticeable in film and TV made over the last few years. Laurence O’Fuarain spoke in his Dublin brogue in Witcher: Blood Origin, even throwing in words like ‘poxy’.

Danielle Galligan spoke with an Irish lilt in Shadow And Bone when her character, Nina was in

spy mode. And in the Lord of the Rings spinoff, Rings of Power, the entire Hobbit-like Harfoot people speak in Irish accents – albeit borderline offensive ones. Ms Trill told the Irish Mail on Sunday: ‘Definitely there’s more authentic Irish accents being asked for in audition tapes’. ‘They’ll say, “Can the artist do it in their original, authentic accent?” And then if they decide they want to try something different or have something else as an option, they’ll say, “Could you do that again, but with a different accent?”’

Ms Trill adopts a US accent in The Hurler, currently in cinemas, and in two upcoming films alongside Alec and William Baldwin.

‘It’s great craic,’ she said of working with the Baldwin brothers. ‘I mean, we filmed in Rome and any excuse to go to Italy, I’ll take it.’

Ms Trill has worked with William ‘on a handful of projects now’ and said it is ‘always a joy to work with’ the younger Baldwin.

The films were Alec’s first since he accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with a prop gun on the set of Rust – but Trill says she didn’t broach the subject while they were filming.

She also says it was ‘exciting and really nice’ to come home to work on The Hurler – a comedy which is based around Co. Waterford comedian, Tony Kelly’s playboy hurler character Gar Campion.

It features a cast of Irish acting royalty including John Kenny, Mario Rosenstock, Karl Spain, David McSavage and Marty Morrissey making a memorable appearance.

The London-based star says she ‘couldn’t say no’ to the chance to work with its charming script.
