Adebayo target of racial abuse after Luton goal

- By Frank Kent

ELIJAH ADEBAYO was the target of online racial abuse after his brilliant equaliser in the second minute of stoppage time clinched a precious point for Luton Town.

Adebayo came off the bench to complete a fine fightback by Luton at Nottingham Forest who were ahead 2-0 going into the 83rd minute, thanks to Chris Wood’s double.

Steve Cooper’s team deserved their lead but lost their focus.

Republic of Ireland striker Chiedozie Ogbene gave the visitors hope when he pounced on a defensive lapse by Forest as they defended a free-kick to score his first Premier League goal.

Then Adebayo produced the equaliser, pulling down a long pass from Tom Lockyer on his chest and holding off Joe Worrall before driving it low past Matt Turner.

Adebayo returned to the dressing room, turned on his phone and found another racist message on his social media.

He had suffered something similar on his last outing, when he missed a sitter in a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham, prompting both clubs to issue statements of support.

Luton will report the latest abuse to police and the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Sasa Kalajdzic netted an 88th-minute winner to give Wolves all three points at struggling Bournemouth.

Dominic Solanke had put the Cherries on top after 17 minutes but Matheus Cunha levelled the scores early in the second half.

Lewis Cook was shown a straight red card a couple of minutes later for an off-the-ball incident where he appeared to move his head towards Hwang Hee-Chan.

The scuffle would prove costly as Kalajdzic popped up to score.

Elsewhere, Eddie Howe has admitted the hardest part is yet to come for Sandro Tonali after watching him play a cameo role in Newcastle’s 4-0 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace.

The 23-year-old Italy international, who could face a ban if he is found to have breached betting rules by an ongoing investigation in Italy, was applauded warmly by the Toon Army at St James’ Park.

Thomas Frank admitted his fiveyear anniversary celebration meal will taste a lot better after Brentford’s 3-0 win over 10-man Burnley.

Goals from Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbeumo and Saman Ghoddos left Frank toasting half a decade in charge in style.
