It is business as usual for Ten Hag

- BY SAMI MOKBEL

IF Erik ten Hag is on borrowed time as United manager, there has been little indication of an imminent departure.

Of course, results will dictate the Dutchman’s future. Yesterday’s win at Fulham will keep Ten Hag in post at least until United face Copenhagen on Wednesday.

Nevertheless, Ten Hag has remained a key figure in the club’s long-term planning. The United boss continues to have a significant input on transfer targets ahead of what is gearing up to be a busy January window at Old Trafford.

Similarly, in recent days, Ten Hag has also made recommendations with regards to contract renewals for members of the existing squad.

For now, Ten Hag remains at the wheel and the powers-that-be at Old Trafford would prefer it to stay that way until at least Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s 25 per cent buy-out is completed.

RAPHAEL VARANE was absent again from Manchester United’s starting XI at Craven Cottage. His recent bench role is all rather intriguing.

The World Cup-winner’s omission in the 3-0 Manchester derby loss was ‘tactical’. On Wednesday, for the Newcastle game, he was ill. Here, his substitute role was said to be with an eye on the Champions League in Copenhagen on Wednesday. There are suggestions of a minor injury. But if Varane does not play in Denmark, tongues will really start wagging.

IN THE 18th minute, Fulham fans held up cards saying: ‘Please Don’t Price Us Out’. Adult season ticket prices at Craven Cottage have gone up 18 per cent, now costing as much as £3,000. Supporters also marched outside the ground with a banner that read: ‘W£ CAN’T AFFORD TO PRIC£ OUT FANS’.
