Underdog Taylor facing biggest f ight of her career, says Hearn

- By Mark Gallagher

EDDIE HEARN says Katie Taylor is facing the most important moment of her professional career when she meets Chantelle Cameron in a rematch at the 3 Arena next Saturday night.

Tayor will be looking to avenge her first pro defeat and also become undisputed champion at two weights when she again goes up a division to fight for the powerful Englishwoman’s light-welterweight title.

And, Matchroom promoter Hearn believes the Bray native is entering a critical phase of her career as this bout will be the first time that Taylor will be an underdog in the professional ranks.

‘This is the most important moment in Katie’s professional career by a long way,’ Hearn told Mail Sport, adding that, for the first time in her career, Taylor is being widely written off going into this showdown.

‘All of a sudden, this is the first fight that she will go into where she is the underdog. Not a lot of people, especially in boxing, think that Katie can actually win this fight and that will motivate her even more, that people are doubting her and saying that they think she is done.’

Hearn also reiterated that he would still like to take Taylor to Croke Park, perhaps for a third showdown with Cameron or a rematch with Amanda Serrano, the Puerto Rican legend, whom Taylor edged in a Madison Square Garden classic last year.

‘Victory over Cameron would set Croke Park up nicely for next year, next summer. It could be a trilogy, it could be Serrano. There are a couple of things, the Irish love their own and they also love a comeback story. To avenge the defeat going in as the underdog would give Katie her greatest moment yet.’
