Angela’s the bookies’ favourite to get boot

‘Lack of hip action’ to blame

THE bookies are tipping Angela Scanlon to bite the Glitterball dust after a disappointing score on last night’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Despite being largely in step with a lively Cha-Cha disco performance to Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I will survive’, the Co. Meath beauty and partner Carlos Gu failed to impress the judges with their Couples’ Choice dance. Whlie they praised her ‘energy’ and ‘lovely, lovely straight legs’ – with Shirley Ballas saying she brought her Cha Cha to life and ‘gave it attitude’ – the four judges only gave the couple 31 points, the lowest scoring of the night. Craig Revel Horwood hinted at the bad news to come when he pointed to her ‘lack of hip action’. Bottom-placed Angela is now facing the red light of doom ahead of tonight’s dance off.

Angela is now the 13/8 favourite to get the boot tonight while betting sites said the flame-haired TV presenter has a 38.1% probability of exiting the contest, with Annebel Croft (7/4 odds) next in line on 36.4%.

Meanwhile Angela’s rival Bobby Brazier’s emotional tribute to his late mother Jade Goody reduced head judge Shirley Ballas to tears.

For his Couple’s Choice he picked the hit This Woman’s Work by Maxwell, which he said reminded him of losing his mum to cervical cancer on Mother’s Day, 2009. Speaking before he took to the floor with partner Dianne Buswell, Brazier said: ‘For me, the perfect song. He sings: “I should be crying but I just can’t let it go” – it’s so beautiful. The story that we are going to tell, simply put, is my mum and I.

‘My mum was Jade Goody, she was a famous TV personality. When she passed away it changed my life completely. This dance isn’t only for my family, it is a tribute to my mum.’

The judges gave Brazier and Ms Buswell 37 out of 40.

Three weeks ago Annabel paid tribute to her late husband Mel Coleman, who died in May following a short battle with cancer. Last night she and her partner Johannes danced the Paso Doble. Nigel Harman and Katya Jones scored 33 for their Rumba to It’s All Coming Back To Me Now by Celine Dion, while Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola impressed with their tango to Destiny’s Child.
