RTÉ rising star Laura Fox is preparing to add another string to her bow with her unveiling as one of the latest contestants on the new series of Dancing with the Stars.

Galway girl Fox has in the past two years experienced a meteoric rise in her presenting career, landing her own 2FM weekend radio show as well as co-hosting on Ireland’s Fittest Family.

Now the starlet is gearing up to dance her socks off.

‘I’m obviously really nervous but I’m also so happy,’ Laura told the Irish Mail on Sunday.

‘You just always teeter on the edge of “will this work out?”’

While she has minimal dance experience, that hasn’t deterred many others from succeeding in this competition and it won’t stop her either.

And she did go to drama school which should be of some help.

‘I’ve done what most kids do – which is just stage school and all those kind of bits – when I was in Galway,’ she said

‘I did that until I was about 15. But I keep saying that was only a couple of years ago, then I remember that I’m 33. It’s a lot longer than I thought, but I’m really looking forward to it.’

Fox’s is the latest name in troupe of famous faces vying for glitterball glory.

The first five celebrities who will be hitting the dancefloor for the new season were announced on Friday and include Former Miss World Rosanna Davison, former RTÉ News presenter Eileen Dunne, Wild Youth frontman David Whelan, drag act Blu Hydrangea and social media influencer Miriam Mullins.

A further five contestants will be announced this week.

While Fox says competition this year is fierce, she added that the craic will also be mighty.

‘It’s a real fun gang this year.

‘I don’t think anyone knows how they will do. I think every single one of them is my competition,’ she laughed.

‘But everyone is really fun so I think there’s going to be an awful lot of devilment behind the scenes.’

While Fox has met her fellow hoofers, her own family have yet to hear her big news.

‘I haven’t told my family so they’ll find out today, when they read this interview.’

As well as rocking and rolling her way around the dance floor, Fox will also be providing the tunes on her 2FM weekend radio show.

‘I am going to be keeping my Saturday show going. Radio is my bread and butter, it’s what I live and breathe.

‘It’s light, easy-breezy. It’s like hanging out with your friends on the weekends. I’ve a great group of listeners who are texting in.

‘I love them; it’s so fun.’

The multi-faceted broadcaster, Fox has just finished up her hosting role on Ireland’s Fittest Family – a gig she relished.

‘Fittest Family was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

‘I will never not be in awe of what the families can do on that show and how they can band together.

‘Sometimes it’s just the most unlikely people and somehow they just bring it it all together and pull it out of the bag.’

While her professional dance-partner has yet to be revealed, she says her longterm boyfriend Brian will not be teaching her any moves.

‘I’ve been with Brian for nine years. He’s so excited for me. He has watched me work so hard throughout the years. ‘

And far from being jealous that his love will be waltzing away with another man, Brian has been encouraging Laura to take to the floor.

‘This is the thing, he’s always been like “oh my god, imagine if you get the chance to do Dancing with the Stars. That would be amazing”.’

But, she added, there is not a prayer that he would ever dance.

‘If Brian is at a wedding, there may as well be an electric fence around the dance floor. He never steps foot on it.’

‘There’s going to be an awful lot of devilment’
