Parents reveal stabbed girl ‘is a warrior’

-

THERE are hopes the five-yearold girl critically injured in a shocking knife attack outside her school last month will be moved out of intensive care by the end of the month.

In an update posted on a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for the family, her parents said their ‘little girl is a warrior’.

It stated: ‘She is still fighting. She remains in the PICU [Paediatric Intensive Care Unit] with hopes of moving to the ward before the end of the year.’

The parents told how they can ‘feel the love and prayers every second of the day’.

They wrote: ‘Had it not been for all of our friends, family and everyone’s support, we wouldn’t have had the strength to stand, and for that we thank you all.’

On December 1, the girl’s mother posted that she didn’t ‘know yet what lies ahead as it is still early’.

At that stage, the mother said setting up the GoFundMe, which has raised over €45,000, was an ‘incredible gesture and kindness you have shown our family during these troubled times’.

‘Your thoughts, prayers and generosity have and will go a long way. Our little girl has shown incredible strength and is still here with us.

‘She is resilient and limitations will not stop her. Thank you so much. All the love we can give.’

The little girl was stabbed in the chest near Gaelscoil Cholaiste Mhuire primary school in Dublin city centre on November 23.

She was among three children and a school care assistant who were injured in the attack, which was followed by hours of rioting in the city centre.

A crèche worker named Leanne Flynn Keogh was also seriously injured in the attack as she shielded children in her care. She was moved out of intensive care last week.
