AIB ULSTER CLUB SFC FINAL Glen (Derry) v Scotstown (Monaghan)

Athletic Grounds, 4pm (TG4)

Nothing surer but that Malachy O’Rourke will have Glen finely calibrated for this one. In Ulster for two different campaigns now, his team has been battlehardened and tactically fluid to survive every challenge thrown at them. From Kilcoo to Errigal Ciaran to squeezing past Naomh Conaill the last day with one last big play, they know how to find a way. And it’s only December 2021 that they handed out a 118 to 0-12 lesson to Scotstown in a one-sided quarter-final. And yet there has been something about Scotstown’s progress this campaign that suggests they are on a mission themselves to win a first title since 1989.

Rory Beggan isn’t just a shotstopper but a playmaker, plus one outfield and a consistent threat from placed balls so Glen’s discipline will be important.

Back in 2021 both Darren and Kieran Hughes got sent off – it doesn’t need mentioning they will have their own point to prove. Donal Morgan’s leadership in defence has shone this far while Jack McCarron gives their attack a fresh edge. This one has all the elements of an absorbing potboiler. Is there one more big finish in Scotstown?

Verdict: Scotstown

AIB MUNSTER CLUB SFC FINAL Dingle (Kerry) v Castlehaven (Cork)

TUS Gaelic Grounds, 2pm (TG4)

A provincial final that breaks down along traditional CorkKerry lines.

Dylan Geaney stood up when it mattered most the last day for Dingle and the Kerry side needed to show serious resolve to fend off a hugely experienced Clonmel Commercials side. Castlehaven though have shown a lot of the same spirit in getting to this point, needing extra time to shake off the challenge of Cratloe. The Hurley brothers Brian and Michael have been to the fore of this campaign and have the potential to produce a match-winning contribution.

Verdict: Castlehaven
