My priceless little gem, Ruby is a girl’s best friend
HOW much is that doggie in the window? The age-old musical conundrum took on modern-day meaning this week as a Los Angeles woman took to TikTok with a story that a stranger had just offered $200,000 for her precious Doberman Pinscher puppy.
In a video that has now been viewed more than 950,000 times, Alexis Elliott (@itsalexiselliott) explains the situation to her followers.
‘Someone offered us $200K for our puppy, and I told my husband “absolutely f*cking not,”’ she said.
‘Would you guys sell your dogs for $200K?,’ she queried of her following. ‘Like, that is my baby!’
Now the cynic in me is highly sceptical of this tall ‘tail’. But in the times we are living we are duty bound to believe she is speaking ‘her truth’. And for journalism purposes I am obligated to afford this lady – pardon the pun – ‘the benefit of the snout’.
Were I to be offered 200,000 to sell any of my dogs I would flatly refuse. In fact I would be incited to hate. I adore all of my three doggies.
But my little Ruby-Roo is my beating heart, my soul, my best friend, my biggest inspiration.
Ruby is my Cavalier King Charles, the product of a ruthless, callous, evil puppy farm operator. Born with serious defects in all her paws she was rendered helpless and dumped in a ditch on a cold, wet, miserable winter’s night.
Left for dead – hopeless, unwanted, scared, all alone in the world – at just a few months old Ruby whimpered in the ditch where she’d been so cruelly abandoned. And in what was to turn out to be the greatest fortune of my entire life, as a passer-by I heard her pitiful cries, saving her from certain death. I took one look at Ruby’s face and decided she was the doggie for me.
Ruby has four bandy paws, she is as bold as brass (my fault for spoiling her) but she is beautiful beyond belief. I wouldn’t part with my little Miss RubyRoo for all the jewels in the world. There is no price that I would even consider for parting with my imperfectly perfect pooch. Money has no value but the simple wag of tail is utterly priceless.
