AIB ALL-IRELAND CLUB SFC SEMI-FINALS (ET and winner on the day) St Brigid’s (Roscommon) v Castlehaven (Cork) FBD Semple Stadium, 1.45pm (TG4)

Amidst all the build-up to the second semi-final, it has almost been forgotten how impressive St Brigid’s were in disposing of the big name threat of Corofin in the Connacht final. But for two Corofin goals against the head, it would have been far more emphatic than the final 1-13 to 2-5 scoreline suggested.

Ben O’Carroll produced an electric performance that day and will take some watching – his 1-7 came via a classy combination of a penalty, four frees and three points from open play.

Castlehaven though certainly won’t be cowed after the gutsy manner of their Munster final win over Dingle.

Mark Collins was such a leader on a day when Storm Fergus made conditions all but unplayable and Damien Cahalane was a lesson in embracing pressure situations.

To see him thump home two penalties in gleeful fashion and then make a critical save suggests that Castlehaven will relish this occasion.

And yet, the feeling persists that St Brigid’s have the all-round game to progress.

Verdict: St Brigid’s

Kilmacud Crokes (Dublin) v Watty Graham’s Glen (Derry) Páirc Esler, 3.45pm (TG4)

Where to start? For a change, maybe with the football rather than the soap opera of the 16th man and all the fallout from last year’s final. It’s worth remembering that in a game of such fine margins, Crokes had done enough the last time they met to put themselves in a winning position.

And they did it too without Shane Walsh or Paul Mannion having to shoot the lights out. Like their opponents, they are ultra-organised and tactically aware, in and out of possession.

The shock 2018 Leinster final defeat by Mullinalaghta taught them the value of defending in numbers and hitting on the counter when required which is a basic starting point if you want to live with Glen’s ability to do the same. Just when it looked like the Derry side’s form was tapering off, they produced a big Ulster final performance and Eunan Doherty’s scoring has put him on Oak Leaf county boss Mickey Harte’s radar.

So many match-winners abound on either side – Conor Glass being just one – and for all the tactical sophistication, there is a sense that this one could provide fireworks and live up to its billing as the game of the weekend. Verdict: Kilmacud Crokes
